Foshan is in southwest of Guangzhou, you might take metro for 40 minute to visit this interesting city. It is known as the hometown of Chinese Kungfu. More over, it is the cardle for Guangzhou opera (Yue opera).

- Foshan Ancestor Temple (Zumiao Temple)
Foshan Ancestor Temple with a long history can be traced back the North Song Dynasty(1078-1085).
It is dedicated to Beidi (Northern Emperor), the Northern God, who is said to have power over the waters of Guangdong, so the temple also known as "Northern Emperor Temple". It is the first temple in Foshan, located at the urban area of Foshan's Chancheng District, covering an area of 3500 square meters.
The original buildings of the temple were burnt down in the late Yuan Dynasty and reconstructed in the fifth year of Hongwu Period, Ming Dynasty (1372). Owing to its long history, Chinese called it Zumiao temple. Now it was recognized as a key protection unit of historical and cultural relics of Guangdong Province and managed by Foshan Museum.
- Siwan Ceramics Museum (NanFengGuZhao)
The Chinese ceramic art is a wonderful work in history. The works in unique style of Siwan have been enjoyed and collected by generations. From the pottery boats, houses, animals and muscical figurines excavated from the Han Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, we will find the original form of the ceramic art here!
Pottery Making
The making of ceramics is a perfect integration of clay, glaze and fire. The traditional technique of ceramic making in Shiwan is roughly the same as the same in history, including 3 main working procedures: raw materials, forming and firing.
Evolution of Kilns
At the very beginning, man stacked the pottery on the ground for firing. In the Neolithic Age, the firing methods developed and there appeared the horizontal-cave kiln and upright-cave kiln which became the basic types of ancient kilns in China. The firing temperature was raised up to 1000 degree C. We can see round mountain type kilns and long slanting dragon kilns in the museum.
3) Itinerary
- Pickup from your hotel in Guangzhou. Take taxi to the nearest metro station
- Take metro for 1 hour to Foshan
- Foshan Ancestor Temple (2 hours sightseeing time)
- Dimsum lunch at famous local Cantonese Dimsum restaurant (lunch cost will be on your own)
- Siwan Ceramics Museum (2 hours sightseeing time)
- Take taxi/bus to Zhumiao Metro Station, then take 1 hour metro back to Guangzhou.
