Shiqiao Village

The Shiqiao Village is 30km northwest of Kaili, about 2 hour drive one way, it is a village with one hundred households nestled in a mountain valley. 

 

We will pass the town of Zhouxi, a small market town, if we are luck enough, we can meet lots of photo opportunity for local villagers coming out on a typical market day.

 

The tradition of hand-made paper is still kept in Shiqiao.  Shiqiao Village of Danzhai County is one of the villages where villagers continue to earn their living by producing and selling hand-made papers and products. There are about 40 families still kept the traditional way of paper making.

 

The recipient of a PATA Foundation grant in 2006 aims to preserve a craft that locals have been practising since about 100 BC.  A papermaking workshop is still in use. 

 

 

 

Qingman Village
Another Miao village of Qingman is on the way to Shiqiao, ask your driver to stop for a while, the spectacular embroidery making skill of the Qingman vilage girls are well known in this area.

 

Qingman is a place as beautiful and passionate as its name suggests. Just look at how the Qingman people greet their visitors - an all-out party floating with songs, dances, and, the guarantee of a great party-self-brewed rice wine!
