Overview:Guiyang is located in central Guizhou province, it is the captial of this province. Guiyang is the biggest city, the economic and commercial hub of Guizhou.
Guiyang has a long history. Early in the Epoch of Warring States(403-221BC), it was in the middle zone between Chu-Qian.
For many generations after the Jin Dynasty (265-420AD), county and prefecture governments as well as Guizhou commanding officers' jurisdictions were set up here, so it is also named 'Zhou' , ' Golden Zhu' , 'Zhu City'. etc.
The old city of Guiyang was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644AD),according to the rules of geomancy, south of the mountaionj and north of the rover.
Then and during the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911AD), Guiyang was a small administrative town situated in Huaxi. It became capital of Guizhou in 1913. In March 1935, Chiang Kai-shek flew to the province to direct operations against Mao Zedong who, he believed , was about to take the city. Instead, Mao slipped away towards the east with the Red Army and the city remained undisturbed until it was bombed by Japanese lanes in 1939, destroying a third of the old city.
Guiyang was established as municipality in 1941 but,, because of its remoteness, remained a small backwater town. Between 1944 and 1945, during the war with Japan, it became the center of Nationalist Government activities. People flocked to Guiyang from all parts of the country and a university was founded.
After 1945, Chongqing took over as headquarters because the Kuomingtang, but by this time, Guiyang was on the map and its development had begun. The highest building in 1949 was five storeys and the main transport was the horse and carriage.
Today there is a good transport network and Guiyang is the main industrial city of Guizhou producing 35% of the total industrial output of the province.
