The contrasts in Hong Kong are extremely fascinating, even within one specific area of the city. There are places where you feel like you've landed right in a science fiction movie but then you turn the next street corner and you find yourself in a small alley with maybe a little temple with burning incense . Of more than 7 million people in habiting here most are Chinese but many Pakistanis, Indians, Filipinos, Europeans and many other nationalities call Hong Kong their home-and they've all managed to add their own flavor to the Hongkong milieu. . Skyscraper Spotting
Like most major metropolises, people in Hong Kong seem to live in hype-speed-they're always on the go and it's easy to get caught up in the rush. It's a good ideas to slow down and remember you're on holiday. Relax and take it all in from a distance before you attack the streets of Central on Hong Kong Island. From the Kowloon side of the harbor the whole skyline is laid out before you, ready to be photographed. The Opera Hall, where the handover ceremony was held is on the left and on the right is the brand new 415m high International Finance Center, it's easy to spot-it dwarfs every other buildings rise to the sky shoulder to shoulder. Some of the architectural wonders include the Bank of China Tower designed by I.M.Pei. The building consists of four triangular glass and aluminum towers of varying heights that emerge from a granite podium. There is a small sky deck open to the public on the 42nd floor that gives a view of the northwest side of Hong Kong. Just next to the Bank of China Tower, by Statue Square, is the home of the HSBC. Designed by the famous achitect Norman Foster, it's a glass and steel wonder with a 52m high atrium.

Your might not have planned it before arriving in Hong Kong, but you'll end up doing some serious shopping. It's part f the Hong Kong psyche and seeing endless rows of shops and shopping centers will make you cave in. Most of the sales staff in shops speak English and do a great job of encouraging you to spend. The shopping spectrum of Hong Kong spans the high-end clothing stores in Central to the markets of cheap bargains in Kowloon. Tsim Sha Tsui has a many stores and shopping arcades to choose from and upscale shopping can be found in Central and Causeway Bay. The Stanley Market on southern end of Hong Kong island is the best known market in Hong Kong.
Nearly every kind of consumer good can be bought in Hongkong from electronics t clothes to Chinese curios. Be sure to look around before you buy, many shops offer the same items and a quick comparison of prices and quality will earn big savings.
